About this experience

Our Highlight tour of about 1,5 hours (± 6 kms) takes you along the most important and interesting sites in Maastricht. This nice route in one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of The Netherlands leads you along squares and watermills, over city walls, along small picturesque alleys, old town gates and through different parks. Our tour which is nearly free from traffic, is really worthwhile! During several short stops you get an extensive explanation about the sights, hear some anecdotes and we'll give you hints to enjoy the city best after the tour as well. Maastricht Running Tours operates since 2011 and works with local and experienced guides.

Itinerary

    The startpoint of our tour. A modern and interesting living area on the grounds of the former Ceramic factory.

    The Stokstraat quarter is the collection of streets between the city centre and the Jeker quarter. All of these streets lead to the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein. This is the area where Maastricht main heart was in Roman times.

    The Jekerkwartier is an original, authentic neighbourhood in the city centre of Maastricht

    Oldest landgate of The Netherlands and the only one that is still visible.

    Along the ancient city walls we enjoy the nice and old city parks with some interesting stops.

    We run now through the west part of the Jekerkwartier with the picturesque cobble stone streets, remainders of the former citywalls, beautiful mansions, nice gablestones, etc.

    The main square in Maastricht. The place where Andre Rieu gives his annual concerts. A place where is so much to tell with the Servaas Basilique and the St. Jan Church in the background. The former's governor's palace, etc

    The Market square hosts the beautiful town hall and the statue of the man with the torch, Minckeleers. The inventor of the gaslight.

    The former industrial zone with the ceramic factory is converted into a modern living area and the new cultural heart of the city.

    The oldest bridge in the Netherlands with a rich history to talk about. With a view on Wyck and the former Heineken owned local brewery
